Chancellor Faymann on Austrian industry expertise, particularly in chemical products, machinery and vehicles, energy, environmental and medical technology.
Austria’s export industry, which makes a valuable contribution to our country’s economic development, has been highly successful in recent years: goods exports have seen a more than seven-fold increase, almost doubling over the last 20 years and currently amounting to around 58 per cent of Austria`s overall economic output oder of GDP.
It is the success story of around 36,000 exporters – 8 percent of Austrian companies are active abroad, earning six in ten euros on foreign markets. Every second job in Austria is directly or indirectly dependent on goods exports. In order to maintain this high level of Austrian exports and to secure Austria’s position as a business location, it is important that investments are made in innovative products with Austrian know-how – particularly in chemical products, machinery and vehicles, energy, environmental and medical technology.
In this context it is also essential that we provide the best possible education for our children. To this end we need schools, higher technical colleges and universities as reliable partners. We need education and training facilities tailored to making the most of young people’s individual abilities and talents, encouraging their enthusiasm and providing them with the necessary know-how and skills to ensure they are well prepared to meet the challenges of a modern and progressive employment and labour market.
My thanks go to Austria Export for the presentation of Austrian companies and their products.
